Radiotherapy Specialist
Dr. Horia Vulpe is a radiation oncologist who joined the Amethyst Otopeni team in 2025, bringing with him extensive international experience and an innovative vision in the field of oncology. Dr. Horia Vulpe is deeply committed to reducing the global burden of cancer through strategic partnerships and collaborations in education, research, and the development of artificial intelligence applied to radiotherapy.
Experience
With an internationally built career, he was recruited to the United States in 2017, where he held leadership positions in oncology, including at Columbia University in New York, Queen’s Cancer Center in Honolulu, and the Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in California.
He is an active advocate for the development of oncology in Eastern Europe, frequently organizing symposiums dedicated to advanced radiotherapy techniques and participating in national conferences in Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
In the context of the humanitarian crisis triggered by the war in Ukraine, Dr. Vulpe became the first Director of Oncology Care Programs at the Blue Heron Foundation, facilitating access to cancer treatments for hundreds of refugees.
In addition to his current work at the Amethyst Otopeni center, he actively contributes to the development of innovative solutions in radiotherapy as a consultant for the company Synaptiq.io.
Contributions and chievements
His initiatives in Africa and Eastern Europe have been recognized with the ASCO Global Oncology Young Investigator Award and the Robert Sheppard Award for Health Equity and Social Justice. He was named Alumnus of the Year by the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University and the Department of Oncology at the University of Toronto. Dr. Vulpe also holds the title of Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Cancer Policy, King’s College London.
Education
He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University in Montreal and completed his residency in radiation oncology at the University of Toronto.
